Laura Harrier & Samara Weaving stun in Open-Bottom Girdle in Hollywood

Hollywood is a rather silly series. When it released in 2020 I didn’t take much notice of it, while I love the lore around Dreamland I found the trailers off-putting. It was the artistic license taken with the material that made me forget about the series starring Laura Harrier, David Corenswet, Darren Criss and Jeremy Pope amongst a large ensemble cast. While race relations were slowly turning around in the late 40s it is hard to take a story seriously about a movie being made with a black lead during this time. The somewhat openly gay relationships are equally unlikely. All that made me put this series aside for two years until I saw a picture of actress Laura Harrier wearing a girdle, then I knew I had missed something. Hollywood is a drama series with very high productions values and an otherwise excellent ensemble cast. If you take the artistic license for what it is, then it offers a fun viewing.

However, we are here because the series is set in the late 40 and that offers us glimpses of open-bottom girdles, stockings and garter belts. And Hollywood does not disappoint. Not wanting to be outdone by either Masters of Sex and Pan Am we have the shows two leading ladies wear the fore mentioned open-bottom girdles during a dressing scene. Claire, played by Samara Wood, feels as though she has to compete with potential star Camille, played by Laura Harrier, and even orders the male attendant to ‘cinch her tighter’, as though she wasn’t stuck up enough. The scene is shown in all its glory, with the two women standing on raised platforms – allowing the viewer just like the women and men in the room to judge the two actresses according to their beauty and sex-appeal. There are several more lingerie scenes, in fact there are some with men wearing them, but that is for a different blog. Laura Harrier has two more lingerie scenes, one in which she wears a rose-colored garter belt, which may not be period authentic but is stunning nonetheless.

Another scene involves her wearing a skin colored bra which I doubt is also period authentic. A final scene involves an unknown actress having sex with gigolo Jack, played by David Corenswet. So there you have it, Hollywood stands well in the pantheon of other ‘girdle-series’ such as Masters of Sex and Pan Am, but does not play it as casual as those other series.
