Linda Kozlowski is an actress I wish we had seen a lot more off on the big screen. Now don’t get me wrong, with her just wearing a thong swimsuit in the 1986 movie Crocodile Dundee we see a lot. We see even more in the 1994 movie Zorn, but I would have preferred to have seen her in more roles. Despite her success with Crocodile Dundee her career never really took off, always remaining in the limelight of her first co-star and then husband Paul Hogan. For all I know she could have been the next Sigourney Weaver, or Julianne Moore. Anyway, its Crocodile Dundee for which she if famous for, playing journalist / photographer Sue Charlton. Sue travels to the outback of Australia to write a story about Mick “Crocodile” Dundee a man wrapped in myth about poaching adventures.
Sue seems to pack lightly and at the end of the first act goes off alone for a swim. Removing her long loose skirt she reveals to be wearing a black thong swimsuit. While thongs were definitely around, as either underwear or swimwear they were unusual. Mostly women wore thong leotards during aerobics and the like. However, no small part in thanks to Linda’s role thong swimsuits became vogue. I certainly ensured the video tape featuring Crocodile Dundee was pretty worn out moving past this scene. Linda certainly steals the show. I am not certain how this scene got to be set up, a backlash with featuring such a thong was not impossible. As this was Linda’s breakout role I also wonder if any other actress of the time would have refused the part.
Anyway, Linda does not reveal her well shaped body anywhere else in the movie, but it is clear she continued to wear her swimsuit underneath throughout the remaining scenes in Australia.
