Maya Erskine in Cute Leather Skirt on Mr and Mrs Smith

I thoroughly enjoyed last year’s series Mr and Mrs Smith, loosely inspired by the 2005 movie with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. I know there is an even earlier movie, but alas I am not familiar with it. The 2005 movie is in fact a movie I do regularly watch, so I was really looking forward to the series when it was first announced. I feared it would be a cheap knock-off but the protracted development seemed to have done its quality a lot of good. Amongst the glut of espionage series it is the best, largely because of the romance & comedy.

Both series leads Maya Erskine, as Jane, and Donald Glover, as John, both own their characters, bringing in tension and outright rivalry to their relationship. In many ways, the secrets missions & assassinations are only the backdrop, but combined with the luxury apartments & settings do bring a lot of style to the series.

I was unfamiliar with actress Maya Erskine before this series, and she does have some high heels to fill with regards to replacing Angelina Jolie, but I think she pulls it off. Her role is bit toned down and lacks the outright sensuality of the movie version of Jane, but that is in large part because of the series format. In one scene in episode 4 Double Date we see Maya Erskine wear a short leather skirt which I did not want to deny you.

Maya Erskine in Season 2?

Mr and Mrs Smith will have a second series, which I expect to arrive no earlier than late 2025 considering the production value. The format is also not clear, it is expected that both Donald Glover and Maya Erskine won’t return but that the series will follow a entirely new John & Jane Smith. However, considering that season 1 started with the Smith’s killing off their own predecessors and nearly being killed by another Smith couple it is well possible we may see them return in some minor role.At this moment the only known casting is that of relatively young actor Mark Eydelshteyn. As for the 2005 movie, I will be posting images of Angelina Jolie soon.
